How much can my truck tow?
Good question and it really depends on the year, make and model of your vehicle, transmission, axle ratio, gas or diesel, cab type, bed type, type of drive and whether it's a travel trailer or fifth wheel you want to tow. The best way is to let us do a tow analysis for you. You can get a tow analysis within 24 hours.
I don't know my axle ratio. How do I find it?
Most people do not know their axle ratio, so the best way is to find out how the factory built your vehicle. If you don't have the original sticker (which will show the axle ratio), then contact any dealership that has a service department and sells the brand of vehicle you own. Then give the service department your VIN and ask them if they could pull up the factory specs on your vehicle and give you the exact information on how your vehicle was built. Go ahead and get the engine size, transmission, etc so you'll have it for future reference.
Why do some RV sales person tell me I can tow anything if I have a 3/4 ton truck.
Sorry to report, but that's a bunch of bull. Do not believe it until you've had someone do a tow analysis, because as an example, a 2007 Chevy 3/4 ton truck with a gas engine can range from 10,300 pounds of towing to 15,900 pounds depending on the engine size and axle ratio. That's a ton of difference! So don't make a mistake and have a safety problem until you know for sure. We'll do a tow analysis for you so you'll know for sure. Maybe, because we do it as a service, you'll consider one of our RV's too.
Can I tow a fifth wheel with an SUV?
Well, yes and no.... I guess you can do anything if you work hard enough at it. Look at this for a funny side to hitching up a fifth wheel to an SUV.
If the description of an RV says it is "self contained", does that mean it has a generator?
Actually, no that does not indicate a generator is included. According to the NADA, Recreational Vehicle Appraisal Guide, Any RV listed as self-contained normally includes the following components as standard equipment: LPG Oven & Stove, Refrigerator, Pressurized water system, Toilet facilities and Sleeping Accommodations. If it has a generator, that will be shown as an added feature/option and not included in the description of "self-contained".
Got a question you've always wanted to ask. Send it to us and we'll add it here for other people to learn so they can make a wise and safe decision when buying an RV.
